I have frequently counseled clients about the connection between food intolerances and gallstone formation. Now comes more information about the importance of diet in controling this painful problem.
Researchers have found that replacing saturated fats in the diet with unsaturated fats, as in the Mediterranean Diet, cut the formation of gallstones in men by nearly one fifth. They do not know whether women will benefit in the same way.
Dr. Giovannucci, coauthor of the study at Harvard Medical School, says "It's probably not entirely an accident that some of the same mechanisms that relate to gallstones relate to having diabetes, or heart disease. The same diet that is good for some of the Western diseases is good for gallstones"
