View Article  Royal Homeopathy
As an ex-patriot Briton, I am delighted to learn that Her Majesty has chosen a Doctor with Alternative leanings as her new Royal Physician.  Many of the Royal family have chosen homeopathic and alternative treatments in the past, but this is a new official level of approval.

View Article  Give 'em Pepper
As a young woman I led an exciting life, travelling all over the world - Asia, South and Central America, Eastern Europe.  I had a simple strategy for avoiding that universal villain, the upset stomach, even though I ate pretty indiscriminately from sources that would raise even MY eyebrows now!  And that was simply never to eat anything without an accompanying selection of hot pepper.

Even now, it is my habit to put a pinch of cayenne pepper in most of the dishes I make.

Now comes a series of studies that show the active ingredient in hot peppers, capsaicin, is successful in controlling many health problems that have their origins in inflammation.

Read about it here.  I wish I could indulge my urge to go in and fix their spelling etc, but alas!

View Article  Against the Grain
Strike another blow for moderation!  Cutting out ALL grains is not something I would ever recommend, it being hard for me on an emotional level to believe that what was created could be bad if eaten in its original form (more or less!), and  on a professional level to accept the exclusion from the diet altogether of such rich sources of many necessary nutrients.

"Individuals who incorporate whole-grain foods into their diets may prevent or reduce their risk of developing the metabolic syndrome, a clustering of risk factors that often precedes type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease," this is the conclusion of a study by Nicola McKeown and others at Tuft University, entitled Carbohydrate Nutrition, Insulin Resistance, and the Prevalence of the Metabolic Syndrome in the Framingham Offspring Cohort

View Article  Dr. Atkins - uncsrupulous attack

Pretty disgraceful, speaking of Dr. Atkins, that a group of Doctors would release his medical records to the Press.  I have met and spoken with Dr. Atkins on numerous occasions, and can assure everyone from my own personal experience that he was in great shape for his age.

What this unscrupulous group has done is taken the fact that he retained fluids while in a coma, thus raising his weight at death, as proof that his diet didn't work for him.

They are also suggesting that his heart problem, which was due to a viral infection, may have had its roots in his diet.

Shameful behaviour.

View Article  Revenge of the High Carb Diet
Another blow struck for moderation!  Dr. Atkins would I am sure be amused by this, but I doubt the Corporate entity now in charge will find it funny.

Read about it here:  Revenge of the high carb diet.
