Don't go E alone
by

on Mon 31 Oct 2005 04:41 PM CST
It's been some time since I took alpha tocopherol by itself: mostly I use the E Gems Elite by Carlson Labs, because they contain the other tocopherols, and also the Tocotrienols.
I wrote an article about tocotrienols, which you can read here, and now comes some excellent new research, emphasizing their value for the brain, and as protection against stroke.
Read the research here.

Currying favor - the health value of turmeric
by

on Wed 26 Oct 2005 11:48 AM CDT
I have been recommending turmeric as an anti-inflammatory for many years, but as time goes by, more and more good things are being discovered about this lowly ingredient of curry powder.
The best known active part of turmeric is CURCUMIN, and it is used not only as a stand-alone remedy, but in many combinations. Intrigued by the fact that levels of certain cancers were very low among the population that habitually eats curry, researchers are investigating to see whether turmeric and/or a component may be important not only prophylactically, but as an adjunct in tumor shrinkage in existing cancers.

New help for fibromyalgia

on Wed 26 Oct 2005 09:19 AM CDT
There is much suffering attached to a diagnosis of fibromyalgia, and it is very difficult to know what to do for it. A natural approach involves many supplements, and much preparation and planning of the diet: implementing it through the mist of fatigue and pain is almost impossible.
This new research by Dr. Teitelbaum (Fatigued to Fantastic) on a sugar called RIBOSE is therefor very promising. I hope it pans out, for the sake of all whose lives are so seriously affected. You will find an invitation to join the study.
Read about it here.

1/2 an ounce of cola, anyone?

on Fri 21 Oct 2005 12:55 PM CDT
With much fanfare, a study has been unveiled showing that consuming sodas on school property has no impact on adolescent obesity.
Reading towards the end of the report, one discovers this is based on consumption of one half to two ounces of soda a day.
Who knew our kids had that kind of restraint?
Here is the report.
P.S. The research paper was supported by an unrestricted gift from the American Beverage Association.

The write drugs
by

on Wed 19 Oct 2005 09:13 AM CDT
This is a real lulu! Even though the plot was foiled, someone in the pharmaceutical industry was really thinking in a novel (!) way.
How about a book with a story line that would scare people off cheaper Canadian drugs for ever?
Read about it here.

Freedom to be Thrown Out
by

Parents of autistic children were quietly trying to man the booth they had reserved at the American Academy of Pediatrics Convention last week in Washington DC, when they were ordered to leave the building, even though they were registered to attend and one of them was a physician and another a nurse practitioner.
They planned to offer information on mercury-free vaccines to the doctors & other health care providers at the convention.
Surrounding the building on the outside was a large crowd of parents, many with their autistic children, demanding that pediatricians use safe vaccines without mercury and work for ways to help affected children..

An inspiring account of how a centuries' old drawing led a modern day heart surgeon to improve his technique.
da Vinci conquers - more than code.

More broccoli marvels
by
vtmnldy
on Fri 07 Oct 2005 10:57 AM CDT
The wondrous effect broccoli can have on cancer cells has been in the news frequently these past years; now scientists have determined that, in vitro at least, a substance in the vegetable called sulforophane has anti-inflammatory activity, controllling the cox-2 enzyme .
Read a report here
Remember though, as is often the case, excessive heat destroys the compound. Crushing the broccoli seems to have the most effect, so juicing it is good.
Consider also the Sulforophane supplement called BROCCOMAX: one of those a day contains 30 mg of SGS (sulforophane glucosinolate)

Sweets to the not-so-sweet

Since its emergence on the market, I, in common with many other holistic health professionals, have been sounding a warning bell about aspartame.
Even as we warned about seizures, headaches and other health problems, we never dreamed of anything quite this extreme.
Italian scientists conclude that aspartame is a "multipotential carcinogen"
P.S the manufacturer says it's not true
