View Article  If you eat red dye - will your hair turn red?

Yes, I know it looks like a stupid question!   But it is an interesting introduction to the dangers of Fluoride.

Even if we were to momentarily discount the arguments about the ethics of forcing people to take a medication without their consent by putting it in our drinking water, Fluoride was originally intended as a TOPICAL application.

For more about the dangerous source of the Flouride used in our water supply, and interesting information about its effects taken interrnally, go here

View Article  Vitamin E takes another (undeserved) hit!

Did anyone out there read "How to lie with Statistics"?

One of the first thing to notice about this study (though not mentioned in the reporting) is that almost the same number of people on placebo developed heart failure as those using Vitamin E..

Jack Challem (www.nutritionreporter.com) points out to me that all of the subjects in this stsudy were seriously ill, either with heart disease or diabetes.  Half had already suffered heart attacks, and a quarter had undergone heart surgery.  All of them were talking pharmaceutical drugs.

As helpful as Vitamin E is, as proven by one positive research study after another it cannot be expected to perform miracles for those who are severly ill after years of abusing their bodies.

Almost as though the study were carefully designed for failure.

Did anyone report the reduction in  cancer rates found in that same study??

View Article  Have some healthy Gatorade!

My mind seems to be running recently on the political process, and how decisions are influenced by Big Money.

Here's another one from Minnesota - suddenly, a magic wand is waved, and  Gatorade becomes a healthy drink for our children.

Read the report here.

View Article  Truth a threat to Pharmaceutical Drugs?

Yup, that's certainly what it sounds like to me.  The drug companies are threatened by the fact that consumers are talking to each other about what their products do and don't do - they want you to listen to them!

Consumer-health sites could lead to unhealthy drug web sites.

View Article  No-diet Dieting

A study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association (2005, vol. 293, pp. 43--53 ) came to the conclusion that it doesn't matter which diet you follow, if you become health conscious and improve your food choices, you WILL loose weight.

The study followed participants assigned to 1 of the 4 currently popular diets, Ornish, Atkins, Zone and Weight Watchers.

Dr. Robert Griffith MD, commenting on the study said " This study shows that there is little difference between four different types of diet - low-carb, balanced carb-protein-fat, low-calorie, and low-fat. All four had a high (over 50%) drop-out rate, and produced only moderate weight loss and cardiac risk reduction.

It's obvious that sticking with a diet will achieve a better result in both weight reduction and lessened cardiac risk factors. No single diet was better than another in these respects, or more effective than another. So, forget the latest fad diet. Instead of spending time and money trying to determine which diet is the right one, you should start one that you believe you can stick to - and then stick to it!

View Article  The Alien Itch - not in your head, believe me.

As if Lyme's disease were not curse enough, now it would appear that the immuno-suppresive medication taken by sufferers is causing alien creatures to grow under, and erupt from, their skin.

"I took (a sample) and put it in a petri dish," Koeberle said. "Those filaments would grow and get longer and longer, and curl around the petri dish."

Read a news paper report on the disbelief among most MDs.

Read a research paper on the new organisms, called Morgellons Disease.

View Article  Does Ritalin increase cancer risk in children?

Which Mother, reading this news, would elect to medicate their child  with a drug that may lead to cancer, rather than put up with a condition which is mostly behavioralin its manifestation?

The report says more study is needed, but I do not need to see more than  "all 12 children in the study" were affected to know what my decision would be! The thought of what the consequences of this could be in years to come, if it proves true, is horrifying.

Addendum, March 14th 2005 : sigh!  it would appear from the comment below (thank you for your correction) that I fell into common error, and posted something which if not exactly untrue, is certainly inaccurate.

For a complete analysis, with links, go here.

I am not a political animal, but I am a bona fide Senior Citizen, and Social Security is definitely an issue! This information struck a nerve with me, and I thought I would share it with you - please let me know if it is not accurate.

"Perhaps we are asking the wrong questions during election years.

Our Senators and Congressmen do not pay into Social Security and, of course, they do not collect from it. You see, Social Security benefits were not suitable for persons of their rare elevation in society.   They felt they should have a special plan for themselves.

So, many year’s ago they voted in their own benefit plan. In more recent years, no congressperson has felt the need to change it. After all, it is a great plan. For all practical purposes their plan works like this: When they retire, they continue to draw the same pay until they die. Except it may increase from time to time for cost of living adjustments... This is calculated on an average life span for each of those two Dignitaries.

For example, Senator Byrd and Congressman White and their wives may expect to draw $7,800,000.00 (that's Seven Million, Eight-Hundred Thousand Dollars), with their wives drawing $275,000.00 during the last years of their lives. Younger Dignitaries, who retire at an early age, will receive much more during the rest of their lives. Their cost for this excellent plan is $0.00. NADA....ZILCH... This little perk they voted for themselves is free to them.

You and I pick up the tab for this plan. The funds for this fine retirement plan come directly from the General Funds; OUR TAX DOLLARS AT WORK"! From our own Social Security Plan, which you and I pay (or have paid) into, every payday until we retire (which amount is matched by our employer)-we can expect to get an average of$1,000 per month after retirement. Or, in other words, we would have to collect our average of $1,000 monthly benefits for 68 years and one (1) month to equal Senator Bill Bradley's benefits!

Social Security could be very good if only one small change were made. That change would be to: Jerk the Golden Fleece Retirement Plan from under the Senators and Congressmen. Put them into the Social Security plan with the rest of us then sit back....and watch how fast they would fix it. If enough people receive this, maybe a seed of awareness will be planted and maybe good changes will evolve."
